Club Boats

The Club has a fleet of some 40 free-to-use Club Boats available for use by Members; RS Quests, RS Zests, RS Fevas, Toppers, RS Teras, Optimists and Lasers. No pre-booking is required, simply turn-up and play. In addition, there are also a small number of Club SUPs available.

For disabled Members, or those with restricted mobility, the Club also has two Challenger tri-maran dinghies for either single-handed or accompanied sailing.

All we ask is that you have fun, the boats are treated with respect and that all Club equipment is returned to the correct place when finished with. Please ensure you wash down your boat, store the sail, boom and rigging correctly, tie down the cover and tie down the boat or place in the correct rack.

Specific, simplified, Club Boat Rigging Guides have been prepared for all these boats and are available for download. If there are any problems or breakages (accidents do happen!) these should be reported promptly to the Facilities Team, so that repairs can be carried out before the next sailing session.

For those Members looking to try their hand at racing away from Redesmere, a small number of boats and road trailers are also available to Club Members for use off-site, by prior arrangement with the Sailing Secretary.

RS Zest

The latest additions to our Club Fleet, for 2024. These are boats for sailors developing their sailing skills and want experience in a boat that is relatively stable and easy to rig - bridging the gap between initial skills development in multi-handed boats. The Zest has the advantage of having a centre board. The Zest can be salied with a single sail or with a jib. The boat is designed to sailed by one adult or one adult and children or 2 juniors.

RS Quest

Added to our Club Fleet in 2019, these are a modern family and/or training dinghy with features that move the game forward. Big enough for an instructor and 2 or 3 pupils, perfect for Mum or Dad and youngsters, small enough to handle easily ashore and afloat, and the option of asymmetric spinnaker sailing if you want a little more excitement!

RS Feva

Fun, fast and friendly double-handed sailboat for junior, youth and family sailors. Ideal as an asymmetric training and racing boat for Juniors and Youth. Also good for a single-adult and child to explore the lake.

Topper

A single-handed dinghy for all ages, these boats are rugged and durable yet strong and light. Easy to handle for beginners and offering highly competitive racing for the more experienced.

RS Tera

A single handed dinghy for younger club members, these boats are rugged, strong and light. They are designed for beginners and novice juniors and are a step up from the Optimist. They can be raced.

Optimist

The first training boat for the younger club members, oppis are very stable and easy to handle. Often sailed as a double-hander by small children, with the option (cramped) for an adult and child.

Laser

Designed as a racing dinghy, it can be demanding for a beginner to get to grips with but is rewarding and exhilarating to sail. The Club also has Laser Radial and 4.7 rigs, which have reduced sail area to make easier sailing for lighter weight helms or windy conditions and are used on the same standard Laser hull.

Challenger

The Challenger tri-maran dinghy is an exceptionally stable dinghy, ideal for sailors with some form of disability. The Club has Challenger boats in both single handed and accompanied sailing layouts, and, as such, these are suitable for a wide variety of sailors.
